    Ron Brooks was born on 14 November 1938, less than ten months before the outbreak of World War Two, which then lasted six years. Their house was close to Filton Airfield, Bristol Docks, and Avonmouth Docks, all prime target zones for the Nazis. His dad was conscripted in 1940 and sent abroad for almost five years, immediately after compassionate leave following the very difficult birth of Ron’s brother Peter.   • Eleonora Georgeta Bulz

    Born in a small city in Romania in 1955, Eleonora Georgeta Bulz grew up spending her holidays visiting her grandparents in a small village at the base of a mountain. She enjoyed the freedom of roaming the hills, mountains, and forests close by and spent lots of time connected to nature. She worked as head of reception and then manageress in a hotel and thereafter became a care assistant in a nursing home.   • Diane Valerie Burgess

    Diane Valerie Burgess was born in Birmingham in 1970. She has worked at British Rail, the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and is the lead vocalist in a Carpenters tribute band.At twenty-seven, Diane was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis, which caused her right hand to become deformed, and in 2021, she suffered a stroke, which paralysed her left hand. Despite this, Diane is still able to write poetry, her favourite pastime. In September 2022, Diane’s life took on a new direction when married the first man she has ever loved.

  • Norman Burslem

    Norman Burslem, born in an air raid shelter in Salford in 1940, was educated mainly in North Wales and West Sussex before going on to become a primary school teacher, headteacher and eventually an advisor/inspector in this field. He and his wife have one son. Having taken up writing upon his retirement, Mr. Burslem has four published novels and has had poetry published in three anthologies.

  • Helen Marie Byrne

    Helen Byrne was born in Morewnstow in Cornwall and worked as a groom for Mendip Farmers’ Hunt until the age of twenty-one, when she retired due to illness. Helen loved horse riding and scuba diving. She possessed an in-depth knowledge of horses and wrote the book All About the Horse at just sixteen years old. She is missed by all who knew her.
