Faye Starling was born in Southport, UK. At the age of ten, she left the UK with her parents to go to Kenya, where she completed her education. Born in Cardiff in 1943, Ruby Steele began her working career as a secretary in industry before changing direction into Facilities Management. She gained a degree in this from Strathclyde University whilst holding down her career. She retired in 2002 and has since busied herself with many interests and studies including photography, Tai-Chi, gardening, reading, walking and travelling the world. She has two children and currently lives happily in Wolverhampton with Ron, her partner of 22 years.

William Thurl was born in Salford in 1946 and educated at Weston Primary and Hitchin Boys Grammar School in Hertfordshire. He obtained his Honours degree in German and French at King's College, London, in 1969. He has taught at schools in Stockton-On-Tees and Hertford, the latter for over 20 years, and now works occasionally as a Supply Teacher.
